| Quick Highlights | New Hybrid Trims Added Strong Off-road Performance Competitive Price Lacks Sportiness |
After debuting for a third-gen run in 2024, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek returns with minor updates to retain its place as the brand’s bestseller. The small crossover remains a popular choice across international markets, which is no surprise, considering that most buyers find it highly capable for its size.
The biggest change for 2026 is that Subaru has expanded the lineup with the addition of a hybrid variant for more efficiency, now bringing available trim levels to seven. Here’s what the newest Subaru Crosstrek in the lineup brings to the subcompact SUV market.

Design: Stylish as Always

If it works, don’t touch it. So, Subaru didn’t have to add any major styling updates to the new Crosstrek. It has the stylish profile we remember: a front fascia with a hexagonal grille flanked by LED headlights, and a clean rear design with horizontal taillights. The Hybrid, however, isn’t as simple. It features a more rugged rear and bolder contours.

From the top, the Crosstrek has a balanced pose, typical of a practical SUV, while the cladding on the bumpers shows it’s ready to ply rough terrain. Roof rails come standard, but the moonroof is offered on some trims. Likewise, wheel designs vary by trim, from 17-inch base wheels to the aggressive 18-inch alloys available on higher trims.
Performance: More Horses for the Road

The new Crosstrek comes with a standard all-wheel drive setup and a 2.5-liter engine, which delivers 180 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque across all gasoline models. Unlike the previous model year, Subaru evened out the performance this time, making sure that even buyers of the base trims feel the 30 hp bump. The hybrid trim is the most powerful and quickest in the lineup at 194 hp and 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds respectively. It draws power from two electronic motors mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a Lithium-ion battery.
All trims get the dual X-Mode function for additional off-road traction and hill descent control. Plus, the Crosstrek remains a reliable and practical ride with a 33/26 MPGE (hwy/city) and 29/24 MPG on its most powerful hybrid trim.
Interior: Functional and Spacious for Its Size

The Crosstrek interior is pleasantly surprising for its class. The cabin layout is easy to navigate, with a few buttons mounted on the wheel and the center console for media and climate control. It also features Subaru’s scratch-resistant StarTex upholstery with stylish stitching on a few higher trims. Plus, there’s a 10-speaker Harman Kardon system for a premium audio experience.

For a small SUV, the Crosstrek interior has enough passenger and cargo room. Rear passengers get a practical 36.5 inches of legroom, and the SUV offers 54.6 cubic ft of space behind the first wheel and 19.9 inches with the rear seats down. However, the small-item storage areas, such as the door pockets and cupholders, are smaller than average.
Connectivity Tech: Basic and Efficient

All trims sport an 11.6-inch portrait infotainment display, except the hybrid models with 12.3-inch screens. Response time can be a bit slow, but thankfully, there are buttons for most basic in-cabin controls. Take nothing away from the simplicity of the system, regardless; the icons are large and generally easy to work. The digital displays serve up simple and clear information.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity are all supported. Plus, there is a dedicated wireless charging pad and multiple USB-C and USB-A ports for both front and rear passengers.
Driver-Assist Features

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control, as expected. In addition, it has Subaru’s exclusive EyeSight system, which provides blind spot detection and reverse-cross alert.
Trims: Two Hybrids Join the Lineup

Subaru added two hybrid variants to the 2026 Crosstrek lineup, namely Sport Hybrid and Limited Hybrid, bringing the total trim options to seven. In terms of price, the hybrid models slot right beside the Wilderness, which stands as the peak gas-only trim available. Buyers who want their Crosstrek with a little more personality will find the hybrid options exciting, but that’s not to say the non-hybrids are any less fun to drive.
Competition

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek gets lots of competition in the subcompact SUV category, but is arguably the most comprehensive in terms of trim offerings. It has seven trim levels, each of them fitted with a symmetrical all-wheel drive that is offered for extra bucks on the Kia Seltos and the Toyota Corolla Cross. And while the Hyundai KONA offers better overall performance (up to 190 hp), it doesn’t compare with the Crosstrek Wilderness for off-road capability.

Despite strong competition, the Crosstrek has maintained a reputation in the small SUV segment for over ten years. No doubts that the addition of new hybrid models will edge the crossover closer to rivals that already offer electrified models.
