The 2027 Audi Q9 arrives as the automaker’s new flagship SUV. While the Q7 and Q8 already occupy the top end of the brand’s big SUV lineup, the Q9 takes things a step further as Audi’s first large full-size SUV.

Design: Big in Every Sense
The 2027 Audi Q9 steps out with a statement size. The wheelbase was stretched to extend overall vehicle length to 209 inches, longer than the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. With 21- to 23-inch wheels, the Q9 stands at about 71.3 inches tall and 86.8 inches wide. According to the automaker, the Q9 was designed to “meet the needs of our customers in the US,” and its generous dimensions make good on that promise.
Highlights of the Q9 exterior include automatic doors that open and close remotely, a large Singleframe grille, and the digital Matrix LED lights that combine to give the front a sophisticated look. The rear gets a futuristic treatment with curved digital OLED rear lights equipped to send additional traffic signals to other road users. Plus, drivers can personalize the front and rear lights with their choice of colors.
Performance: Surprisingly Smooth
The Q9 uses a 2.9-liter twin turbo V6 engine capable of 429 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. At those figures, the Q9 delivers more power than the typical full-size luxury SUV. It uses a standard Quattro AWD and an 8-speed auto transmission system, and can tow up to 7,700 lbs of cargo.
The Q9 has an impressive 0 to 60 mph time of 4.9 seconds, but the adaptive air system is arguably its most premium feature in the performance sector. Besides keeping the driving composed at all times, the hands-free function lets drivers take their hands off the wheel at a speed of 85 mph on specific roads and handles the entire drive, from steering to braking.

Interior: A Digital-Heavy Cabin
Screens take center stage in the 2027 Audi Q9 cabin. More than 38 inches of display stretch across the dashboard, adding to the premium feel of the SUV. However, Audi retained a few physical controls, including a volume knob and shortcut buttons in the center console, so drivers don’t have to rely on the screens for every function.
The 2027 Audi Q9 comes with seven or six seats with partial power adjustments and optional heating and ventilation. All seats are covered in premium leather and available Dinamica microsuede materials, and the second row can tilt automatically to allow access to the third row. Also, drivers can set the mood in the cabin with 5 climatic zones or let natural light flow in from a giant panoramic roof, the largest on any Audi SUV. A Bang & Olufsen Audio System completes the premium atmosphere with 4D sounds from 22 speakers.
In addition, the Q9’s upright silhouette leaves 19.3 cubic ft of room behind the third row, up to 50 cubic ft behind the second, and about 87.7 cubic ft total. There’s enough room for adults to stretch out in the second and third rows, and getting in and out is easy.
Connectivity and Safety Tech: Audi Pushes the Limit
The Q9 supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and uses Amazon Alexa for additional voice control. Additional connectivity tech includes the exclusive Audi Assistant for hands-free voice commands and real-time traffic routing. The Audi Connect app also provides remote lock and unlock functions, vehicle tracking, and other subscription-based services.
In addition to standard safety features, such as automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring, Audi added a few exclusive tech features, including a built-in dash cam and an advanced indicator for improved visibility when maneuvering a turn. Besides, the automatic doors also have a built-in tech that stops the door from opening if it detects oncoming traffic.
Pricing and Competition
Audi offers the 2027 Q9 in three trims, including the Q9 Premium, Premium Plus and Q9 Prestige. Prices across the trims are still unconfirmed, but the entry trim will start at $87,700 excluding destination, which puts it within the same price territory as the BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS.
The Q9 is considerably more powerful than the base X7 and GLS 450, which max out at 375 hp, respectively. Its 0 to 60 mph time (4.9 seconds) is also quicker on the debut trims. While the Q9 isn’t as spacious as the BMW X7 and the Cadillac Escalade, it offers the best value for money with reliable performance, modern technology, and plenty of practical room expected of a full-size luxury SUV.
The 2027 Audi Q9 is due to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year alongside a more powerful SQ9 model, which comes at a starting MSRP of $119,300. Audi has disclosed that the SQ9 brings along notable performance upgrades, including a 591-hp twin-turbo V8 engine. It uses the same 8-speed auto transmission system and Quattro AWD, but will be rear-biased for a sportier performance.
