Nissan Adds Nismo Performance to the 2026 Armada

Nismo has become the dedicated nameplate for Nissan’s high-performance lineup, including SUVs. Sure, the Patrol Nismo already thrives in other regions, but the 2026 Nissan Armada is the brand’s first high-performance SUV to enter the US market.

The Nismo builds on the third-generation outlook we saw in the 2025 Armada redesign and brings more power for buyers who want more than the existing 425 horsepower. Learn more about the newest Nissan family SUV.

Design: Go Big

The latest Armada stretches up to 209 inches in length and stands so tall (79.6 inches in total height) it feels large from behind the wheel and looks even more intimidating on the road. But it’s not all sheer size. The Armada retains Nissan’s aesthetic identity, with a large V-motion grille flanked by C-shaped LED lights.

Although the new Nismo edition divides opinions design-wise, other trims maintain an appealing modern profile. They are nicely sculpted and boxy at the rear, and also come in several paint options. The bumpers get an upgrade with dedicated cooling vents, while wide wheel arches improve the appeal of the side profile.

Performance: The Most Powerful Armada Yet

The Armada Nismo is the brand’s most powerful SUV yet, with a 3.5L twin-turbo engine tuned to deliver 460 hp, 35 horses more than other trims in the lineup. All versions of the 2026 Nissan Armada provide 516 lb-ft of torque from a standard intelligent RWD drivetrain, except the Pro 4X and Nismo trims with exclusive AWD.

Throttle and braking response make the driver feel fully in charge, whether it’s in-city runs or longer trips. With an 8,500-lb towing capacity, the hauler makes short work of the average driver’s towing needs.

Cabin: Enough Space and Comfort

The Armada has so much passenger room that it could almost be a minivan. Its 40-20-40 split bench seats comfortably sit seven to eight adult passengers, depending on configuration. First and second rows provide 43.8 inches and 39.2 inches of legroom, respectively, and there’s enough in the third row for tall occupants. With all three rows in use, there’s only a practical 20.4 cubic ft. of cargo space. However, 53.6 cubic ft behind the second row frees up the Armada, plus a competitive total cargo volume for larger gear.

The interior is covered in soft-touch materials and nice contrast stitching that make the cabin feel upscale, especially on higher trims. An optional moonroof lets in natural lighting, and there’s a 12-speaker Klipsch audio system to keep both drivers and passengers entertained.

Smooth Connectivity Features

Given its price, an intuitive cockpit is a must, and the 2026 Nissan Armada doesn’t disappoint. Two 12.3-inch displays (14.3 inches on Nismo trim), one of which provides access to the infotainment system, sit within the driver’s reach. Besides on-screen menus, drivers can control media and other features using wheel-mounted buttons and the knob on the center console.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. It also supports Siri Eyes Free and Google Assistant for hands-free control. Plus, there are USB charging ports and additional display screens for second-row occupants.

Tech: Safety and Driver Assist Features

The Armada racks up many positives in the safety tech column. Notably, the carmaker has improved the ProPilot Assist tech, which means drivers can take their hands off the wheel on mapped single-lane freeways. This new 2.1 version is available on select models, including Platinum, Platinum Reserve, and Nismo.

All Armada models have the standard Nissan Safety Shield 360, which comprises Blind Spot Warning, and an Automated Emergency Braking System with pedestrian detection, among other basic safety kit.

RWD and AWD Options

The 2026 Nissan Armada comes in six trims offered in RWD and 4×4 drivetrains, except the Pro 4X and Nismo. So, it’s no surprise that the pricing varies across the lineup by some margin. The entry Armada SV starts at $58,840, while the Nismo and Platinum Reserve cost around $80k each. Here’s a full breakdown of the Nissan Armada trims and prices.

TrimRWDAWD
Nissan Armada SV$58,840$61,840
Nissan Armada SL$63,530$66,530
Nissan Armada Platinum$70,490$73,490
Nissan Armada PRO 4XN/A$74,300
Nissan Armada NISMON/A$79,530
Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve$77,590$80,550

The Pro 4X is a sweet spot for drivers who want the interior comfort and almost all the tech that makes the Armada a reliable ride. For example, it has the rear lock differential, which keeps the big SUV light on all surfaces, even when it’s loaded to full capacity, both passengers and cargo.

Nissan Armada or Others?

Compared to others in the big SUV segment, the Armada is a great bargain. It undersells the Chevrolet Tahoe, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and Ford Expedition, each with a minimum starting MSRP of $66,000. Even the $85k Infiniti QX80, which poses as Armada’s luxury cousin, mostly just adds nicer materials and the Infiniti badge.

Besides the price, the Nissan Armada scores high on variety. Buyers can choose between RWD and AWD setups with lots of optional packages to add, especially on top trims. For example, the Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension improves overall performance. And the new Nismo trim adds smoother handling, thanks to the light 22-inch alloy wheels.

As far as sheer power goes, there aren’t many full-sizers better than the 2026 Nissan Armada in the US market. It also holds up well when the conversation shifts to overall ride quality. And while it’s okay to expect better styling of a family SUV that goes as high as $80k, the car’s reliability is enough compensation.
